Questions & answers on doing a body lift on your 4WD
Last Updated:14/05/09
Body lifts have been a popular conversion for many years.
One of the main reasons for doing a body lift is to gain for height for fitting larger wheels & tyres.
The following questions are the most common received by our sales team.
Can I do a body lift legally? If your vehicle is fitted with safety air bags the answer is usually no whether it's a 25mm or 50mm. If the vehicle doesn't have safety bags then a 25mm lift is legal. If you wish to do a 50mm lift we recommend you contact the local RTA office in your State for the legal requirements. |
What are the benefits of doing a body lift? Doing a body lift is beneficial when fitting bigger wheels & tyres to get that little extra guard clearance. Usually 25mm – 50mm is the required height. |
Do I have to lift the bullbar, rear bar & side steps? No it's not essential, but it is recommended for overall appearance |
Do I have to extend & bend the gear & hi-low lever? For most 25mm lifts it's not required but for 50mm lifts most models definitely require this modification. |
What about the steering shaft? No problem with a 25mm lift. For a 50mm + lift we have a steering shaft extension which bolts on to overcome this problem. |
Can I fit it myself? The kit is supplied with basic fitting instructions . If you consider yourself mechanically minded & you can read instructions (believe me not everyone can read) then yes you can fit the kit yourself. A 25mm lift is relatively easy, but you need to be prepared for more work when fitting a 50mm lift. Also check with your local authorities before attempting the 50mm lift as some engineers insist that the fitment be done professionally before issuing any engineers reports. |
What if I can't fit the kit? No problem, contact your local mechanic or 4WD shop for a quote. |
How long does it take to do the lift & bar work? This depends on the height of the lift. A 25mm lift can be done in a day as can a 50mm lift with basic bar work. Allow 2 days for 50mm with full bar work. Time allowed depends on bar work. |
What if I want to do a body lift & my vehicle is not listed on your web page? No problem, all we need to know is how many mounting points on the chassis & the original bolt lengths. We can put together a kit to suit your vehicle. |
