Engine
Sump
When fitting an LS1/LS2 engine into a vehicle with a leaf sprung front
end the engine sump/oil pan will need to be swapped over to a truck
type. The truck style sump drops
at the back of the engine and will clear the steering track rod and the
differential housing when the front suspension is fully compressed. The
Commodore style sits directly over the top of the diff housing and will
be destroyed after the first bump, the Corvette sump does drop at the
back but its bowl is half the depth and twice as long as the truck
version, it will be hit by the track rod and diff when the front
suspension is fully compressed.
There is a number of truck style sumps available, they
don't all look the same but primarily they do drop at the back and have
an almost square shape bowl.
The oil level switch on the side of the sump in some
installations can be damaged by the front drive shaft and must be
replaced by a plug.
