Marks 4WD Adaptors - Nissan GQ-GU Auto to Gen3-LS1 V8

Gen3/LS1/LS2 V8 Engines

To

Nissan GQ/GU 4-Speed Automatic

Marks 4WD Adaptors manufacture conversion kits to replace the standard Nissan TB42, TB45 and TB48 petrol, TD42 and ZD30 diesel engines with GM Gen3, LS1 and LS2 petrol V8 engines.

We have found that the 4-speed automatic transmission fitted to these vehicles is adequate and will handle the power of high output V8 engines provided the transmission and torque converter are upgraded, we highly recommend you consult your local automatic transmission specialist regarding any specific upgrade requirements.

NOTE: 1 When replacing the GU 4.8ltr engine fitted with the 5-speed automatic transmissions we recommend consulting a transmission specialist regarding the ECM/PCM compatibility. Some interface problems have been encountered when fitting V8 engines.

NOTE: 2 For all vehicles fitted with a automatic transmission we would recommend you fit a set of extra low range gears to help regain your engine braking.

Holden/Chevy Gen3 LS1, LS2 L76 V8 Engines

The Holden/Chevy 5.7ltr Gen3/LS1, 6.0ltr LS2 engine has a bolt pattern similar to the old Chevy Turbo bolt pattern with the addition of one extra hole placed at the top centre of the block and two extras at the bottom which are tapped into the cast aluminium sump. The crankshaft also has a different bolt pattern and the spigot bearing location in the crank is closer to the block, as is the crankshaft flange face.

Water Temp and Oil Pressure Adaptors

Special engine water temperature and oil pressure adaptors are also supplied in the kit.

Water Pump

Marks 4WD Adaptors now stock new Gen3/LS1 Commodore water pumps. If you purchase a new water pump with your engine kit we will fit the new fan pulley for to the water pump for free.

Gen3 Engine Sump

The original Commodore sump drops at the front and will not clear the front diff in a 4WD, the Chevy rear drop aluminium truck sump can be used, but must be modified to clear the steering track rod. Marks 4WD Adaptors now stock modified Chevy truck rear drop sumps and pickups. The Commodore Dipstick will need to be extended if it is to be used with this sump.

Holden Gen3/LS1 Engine Mountings

Our heavy duty, rebuildable engine mountings have been utilised in this conversion, we have designed heavy duty base plates that allow them to bolt directly to the engine block. New chassis brackets replace the original Nissan ones, all of the required bolts nuts and washers are supplied in the kit.

The engine mountings are designed to offset the engine slightly to the left side of the vehicle, this offset along with the re-machined air conditioning bracket supplied in the kit allow the air conditioning compressor to be fitted to the engine with sufficient chassis clearance. The original drive belt is retained.

The alternator is also re-positioned as it will not fit between the chassis rails of the Nissan. A new re-machined alternator bracket along with a steel interface bracket are used to mount the alternator in place of the power steering reservoir, in front of the left hand cylinder head. All of the required spacers, bolts, nuts and washers are supplied in the kit.

A new fan pulley is supplied which allows the fitting of the new reverse rotation fan and fan clutch. All of the required bolts, nuts and washers are supplied in the kit.

NOTE: The engine mounting kit will only suit the coil sprung front-end vehicles. Early cab chassis GQ and Ford Maverick vehicles were fitted with leaf springs.

Holden LS2 Engine Mountings

Our heavy duty, rebuildable engine mountings have been utilised in this conversion, we have designed heavy duty base plates that allow them to bolt directly to the engine block. New chassis brackets replace the original Nissan ones, all of the required bolts nuts and washers are supplied in the kit.

The engine mountings are designed to offset the engine slightly to the left side of the vehicle, this offset along with the re-machined LS1 air conditioning bracket supplied in the kit allow the LS1 air conditioning compressor to be fitted to the engine with sufficient chassis clearance. The original LS1 drive belt is required. Please note this does mean that the LS2 air conditioning compressor and bracket must be replaced with the LS1 version. The LS2 air compressor is smaller than the LS1 version but the mounting bracket offsets the compressor to far out from the engine block which prevents it from fitting into the Nissan chassis.

NOTE: The engine mounting kit will only suit the coil sprung front-end vehicles. Early cab chassis GQ and Ford Maverick vehicles were fitted with leaf springs.

PCM Anti Theft Programming

Commodore and Chevy engine management computers require a stream of data to be sent to them from the body control module, prior to starting the engine. This is part of the vehicles anti theft system. The stream of data required by the PCM is unique. Fortunately the input to the PCM can be switched off by changing the program information. Marks 4WD Adaptors can re program your PCM.

Interface Wiring Loom

Marks 4WD Adaptors have now designed an interface wiring loom for Gen3 engines. The loom replaces the original GM engine loom, it is fitted with all of the required relays, fuses and plugs to connect the PCM to the engine. The loom is fitted with the standard GM diagnostic plug to make fault finding a breeze. To help with the installation we have also included a Tacho output wire, a VSS output/input wire and a TPS wire.

Engine to Gearbox Kit

The kit consists of an adaptor housing which couples the new engine to the original petrol or diesel bellhousing. The new adaptor housing measures 72 mm in length and spaces the new engine away from the irregular shape of the Nissan Patrol firewall.

No firewall modifications or re positioning of the original transmission is required.

The automatic transmission is retained in its original location along with the original torque converter and flex-plate.

The use of the original GM flex plate along with the flex plate stiffener supplied in the kit prevents the ring gear from being pushed away from the starter pinion while cranking.

A specially designed crankshaft adaptor supplied with the kit bolts to the rear of the GM flex plate and flex plate stiffener. The adaptor converts the rear crankshaft bolt pattern from GM dimensions to standard Nissan 6 bolt crank dimensions allowing the Nissan flex-plate and torque converter to be connected to the engine.

The adaptor housing is machined with a hole at the bottom to accept a cover plate, the hole is used to gain access to the torque converter bolts. A new cover plate including the required bolts, nuts and washers are all supplied with the kit.
