NISSAN GQ/GU AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS

Marks 4WD Adaptors manufacture conversion kits to replace the standard Nissan TB42, TB45 and TB48 petrol, TD42 and ZD30 diesel engines with GM Holden petrol V8 engines.

NOTE: When replacing engines from Nissan GU Patrols fitted with the 5-speed automatic transmissions we recommend consulting a transmission specialist regarding the ECM/PCM compatibility. Some interface problems have been encountered when fitting V8 Diesel engines.

The kit consists of an adaptor housing which couples the new engine to the original petrol or diesel bellhousing. The new adaptor housing measures 72 mm in length and spaces the new engine away from the irregular shape of the Nissan Patrol firewall.

No firewall modifications or re positioning of the original transmission is required.

The automatic transmission is retained in its original location along with the original torque converter and flex-plate.

A specially machined crankshaft adaptor supplied with the kit that bolts to the rear of the GM engine and flywheel. The adaptor converts the rear crankshaft bolt pattern from GM dimensions to standard Nissan 6 bolt crank dimensions allowing the Nissan flex-plate and torque converter to be connected to the engine.

A standard GM flywheel is needed for the conversion. The use of a GM flex-plate is not recommended as the ring gear can be pushed away from the starter pinion while cranking.

An adaptor housing cover plate, which protects the bottom of the automatic transmission from water and dust entry, as well as all the required bolts, nuts and washers are also supplied with the kit.

Holden V8 Engines

When ordering 308 Holden V8 kits, please make sure the bolt pattern at the rear of the engine is Turbo (Chevy) pattern as no housing is available for the Trimatic bolt pattern.

The 1988 VN and later 304 C.I. and 350 C.I. engines have the Turbo bolt pattern.

BCM

Commodore VR and VS engine computers (PCM's) require a security signal from the body control module before the engine can be started. The BCM simulator is programmed to supply the correct security signal allowing the engine to be started.

The simulator is programmed to send both VR and VS security codes.

The simulator is also equipped with an output to control a relay for the engine cooling fan. This option will only work with VS models.

PCM Mem-Cals

Commodore VT engine management computers require a stream of data to be sent to them from the body control module, prior to starting the engine. This is part of the vehicles anti theft system. The stream of data required by the PCM is special. Fortunately the input to the PCM can be switched off by changing the program information in the mem-cal. Marks 4WD Adaptors can supply mem-cals on an exchange or out right basis.

Engine Mountings

Engine mounting kits are also available to fit the GM V8 engines. These kits consist of engine mounting rubbers, bolts, and new chassis brackets. The old chassis brackets will need to be cut off the chassis and the new ones welded back on.

The engine mountings have been designed to give you sufficient legal sump to differential clearance when using a rear bowel GM sump.

NOTE: The engine mounting kits will only suit the coil sprung front-end vehicles. Early cab chassis GQ and Ford Maverick vehicles were fitted with leaf springs.

Front Springs

Heavy-duty front springs are also recommended to give more front drive shaft to adaptor housing clearance.

Note: When a Chevy engine is being fitted it is required that you use the smaller reduction drive starter motor with the conversion. These starter motors are smaller in the main body and will provide greater starter motor to front drive shaft clearance. A McLeod Hi-Torque starter was used on our vehicle and proved to be successful. If you have an IMI Hi-Torque starter the gearbox housing will need to be replaced with our MFC1231 housing. This housing rotates the solenoid to the top giving maximum clearance.

Nissan Fan to GM Water Pump Adaptor

The Nissan viscous coupled fan is very effective as the coupling, when heated by the warm air from the radiator, virtually locks the fan directly to the water pump rapidly cooling the engine. Marks 4WD Adaptors manufacture an adaptor kit that easily couples the the Chevy and Holden V8 water pump and pulley to the Nissan viscous coupling and fan.
