Chevy V8 Diesel to the Land Cruiser 5-Speed Manual

Marks 4WD Adaptors manufacture kits that allow the fitting of 380 C.I. (6.2ltr) or 400 C.I. (6.5ltr) Chevy V8 diesel engines.

In Australia an engineer's report is required after the conversion has been completed. Contact your local RTA office for a list of engineers.

Chevy V8 Diesel Engines, to the FJ80 5-speed Manual kit part no. MFK1260CD utilises the Toyota bellhousing, instead of a replacement bellhousing, a flywheel housing is supplied which measures 74mm/2.9" long. This housing has the GM bolt pattern on the front and the Toyota 3F, bellhousing bolt pattern on the rear.  NOTE: This kit does not use the original Toyota sandwich plate.

The new flywheel supplied in the kit accepts the original Toyota 11" clutch. The flywheel is offset to the rear to place the clutch in its original position. The flywheel has no ring gear and must be used with the original GM flex plate and ring gear. Spacers and bolts are supplied to fix the flex plate to the back of the flywheel.

Engine Mounting

The MFK680/CK engine mounting kit to suit the 80 series Land Cruiser consists of replacement chassis brackets, engine mounting rubbers and bolts. The original Toyota chassis brackets are welded to the chassis and must be cut off with a grinder to make room for the new brackets. The new brackets must also be welded to the chassis, if you're not a good or qualified welder, we suggest a contract welder do the job. When using this kit firewall modification is required.

Engine Mounting Rubbers

Two types of engine mounting rubbers are available, standard Chevy type and now a heavy duty rebuildable type using urethane bushes. Click here for details.

Drive Shaft Spacer

To prevent the need to modify the firewall  behind the right hand cylinder head we suggest slotting the cross member mounting holes to bring the engine forward approximately 20mm. After this is done the rear drive shaft will need to be lengthened or alternately a spacer can be fitted between the transfer case output flange and the drive shaft. Marks 4WD Adaptors now manufacture a 20mm long spacer, see part number below.

Land Cruiser Fan Adaptor

The Land Cruiser viscous coupled fan is very effective as the coupling, when heated by the warm air from the radiator, virtually locks the fan directly to the water pump rapidly cooling the engine. Marks 4WD Adaptors manufacture an adaptor kit that easily couples the the Chevy water pump and pulley to the Toyota viscous coupling and fan.

Air Cleaner Adaptor

Chevy diesel engines are usually fitted with an air cleaner that looks similar to the type fitted to Chevy petrol carburettor engines. This type of air cleaner will require modifications to allow it to be used with a snorkel. To over come this problem Marks 4WD Adaptors now manufacture a cast aluminium hat that takes the place of the GM air cleaner. The inlet takes a 3 1/2" hose and will fit directly to a late model Toyota air cleaner hose, should you have an early model air cleaner with a 3" outlet a rubber adaptor hose can be used. These parts can be purchased separately or as a complete kit.

Kit Part Numbers Are As Follows:

Chevy V8 Diesel to the Land Cruiser 4-speed Automatic

Chevy V8 Diesel Engines, to the FJ80 4-speed automatic kit part no. MFK1260CDA utilises the Toyota bellhousing, instead of a replacement bellhousing, a flywheel housing is supplied which measures 74 mm/2.9" long. This housing has the GM bolt pattern on the front and the Toyota 3F, bolt pattern on the rear. NOTE: This kit does not use the original Toyota sandwich plate.

The transmission torque converter is coupled to the flywheel via a crankshaft adaptor. The adaptor has the Toyota crankshaft bolt pattern and spigot diameter on the transmission end with the GM crankshaft bolt pattern and spigot diameter on the engine end.

This allows the Toyota flex plate and torque converter to be bolted to the rear as with the old F engine. On the rear of the engine a flywheel is used instead of a flex plate, as there is no provision to support a flex plate when the starter motor is engaged.
