LAND CRUISER HJ61

CHEVY PETROL V8 ENGINES TO THE LAND CRUISER AUTOMATIC

To comply with Australian emission laws the new engine must have been manufactured the same year or later than the vehicle. The engine must also have all of the emission components connected, including the catalytic converter. In this instance the engine must also be run on unleaded fuel or LPG. An older engine can be fitted providing it's run only on LPG fuel.

In Australia an engineer's report is required after the conversion has been completed. Contact your local RTA office for a list of engineers.

Bellhousing

Chevy V8 to HJ61 4-Speed automatic Kit part no. (MFK560#####) utilises the Toyota bellhousing and sandwich plate, instead of a replacement bellhousing, a flywheel housing is supplied which measures 122 mm/4.8" long. This housing has the GM bolt pattern on the front and the Toyota 3F, bolt pattern on the rear.

The transmission torque converter is coupled to the flywheel via a crankshaft adaptor. The adaptor has the Toyota crankshaft bolt pattern and spigot diameter on the transmission end with the GM crankshaft bolt pattern and spigot diameter on the engine end.

This allows the Toyota flex plate and torque converter to be bolted to the rear as with the old 3F engine. On the rear of the engine a manual flywheel is used instead of a flex plate, as there is no provision to support a flex plate when the starter motor is engaged.

As this kit was originally designed to replace the F series petrol engine some second hand parts will need to be purchased for the installation. A bellhousing, sandwich plate, and flex plate from a 2F or 3F 6-cylinder petrol.

Engine Mounting

Engine mounting kits consist of replacement chassis brackets which can be bolted or welded to the chassis rails and utilise GM engine mounting rubbers. These rubbers have been found to be stronger than the Land Cruiser rubbers.

The engine mounting kits have been designed to give you sufficient legal engine sump to differential clearance when used with a standard rear bowel GM sump.

Engine Mounting Rubbers

Two types of engine mounting rubbers are available, standard Chevy type and now a heavy duty rebuildable type using urethane bushes. Click here for details.
