Rock crawling Transfer Case Gears

For

Toyota Land Cruiser Split Transfer case

These gears have been designed to directly replace all of the Toyota split transfer case gears as fitted to Land Cruiser BJ, FJ, LJ, RJ, and HJ models built between 08/1980 through to 01/1990. All HZJ75 models and the HZJ78 and 79 series can also be fitted with these gears.

Our High and Low range output gears have been designed to use needle roller bearings as found in Land Cruiser transfer cases fitted with Automatic transmissions. This makes installation much easier as no special equipment is required such as a hydraulic press. Marks 4wd Adaptors now supply these output bearings with with all gear sets and transfer case rebuild kits.

The idler gear is designed to accept tapered roller bearings. This design has some outstanding advantages, firstly the tapered bearings eliminate all gear end float, resulting in reduced transfer case gear noise and overall backlash. Unlike the original needle bearings when the tapered bearing outer elements wear they can be easily replaced without requiring the gear to be replaced.

Four gear ratio combinations are available, they are as follows:

Option 1

High Range 1:1 = No Change
Low Range 2.82:1 = 44% reduction
Option 2
High Range .92:1 = 8% Overdrive
Low Range 2.82:1 = 44% reduction
Option 3
High Range 1:1 = No Change
Low Range 3.05:1 = 55% reduction
Option 4
High Range 1.08:1 = 8% Underdrive
Low Range 3.05:1 = 55% reduction

Option 1
High Range 1:1 = No Change
Low Range 2.82:1 = 44% reduction

Multiply this 2.81:1 by the 1st gear ratio of 4.843:1 and the differential ratio of 4.11:1 will give you a final drive ratio of 56:1 which is a vast improvement on the STD final drive ratio of 36.1:1.

The extra low range transforms your Toyota into an unstoppable off road machine.

Vehicles fitted with automatic transmissions, STD or other wise can also take advantage of the extra low, low range as a dramatic improvement in engine braking is realised giving much improved off road performance and increased safety.

Option 2
High Range .92:1 = 8% Overdrive
Low Range 2.82:1 = 44% reduction

HIGH RANGE ratio .92:1 or 8 Percent Overdrive.

If your vehicle is fitted with a 4-speed gearbox behind an F, B or H series engine the overdrive will give you a reduction in engine revs of approximately 225 RPM at 100 KPH or 2575 RPM instead of 2800 RPM.

Alternatively, if your vehicle is fitted with a 5-speed gearbox behind a 2F, B, 2H or 1HZ series engine. The overdrive will give you a reduction in engine revs of approximately 190 RPM at 100 KPH or 2175 RPM instead of 2365 RPM.

Alternatively, if your vehicle is fitted with a 5-speed gearbox behind a 3F, or HD series engine. The overdrive will give you a reduction in engine revs of approximately 200 RPM at 100, KPH or 2265 RPM instead of 2465 RPM.

The overdrive ratio is very useful in vehicles used for heavy towing as 4th gear can be utilised more often giving 5th gear an extended life.

The overdrive is also an advantage to vehicles fitted with turbo charged Toyota diesel engines, V8 diesel engines and V8 petrol engines giving extended fuel range and engine life.

Note: This overdrive has no extra moving parts and requires no extra maintenance.

LOW RANGE ratio 2.81:1 or 44% Reduction

Multiply this 2.81:1 by the 1st gear ratio of 4.843:1 and the differential ratio of 4.11:1 will give you a final drive ratio of 56:1 which is a vast improvement on the STD final drive ratio of 36.1:1.

The extra low range transforms your Toyota into an unstoppable off road machine. The low range crawling speed is ideal for you crazy rock crawling maniacs.

Vehicles fitted with automatic transmissions, STD or other wise can also take advantage of the extra low, low range as a dramatic improvement in engine braking is realised giving much improved off road performance and increased safety.

Option 3
High Range 1:1 = No Change
Low Range 3.05:1 = 55% reduction

Multiply this 3.05:1 by the 1st gear ratio of 4.843:1 and the differential ratio of 4.11:1 will give you a final drive ratio of 60.7:1 which is a vast improvement on the STD final drive ratio of 36.1:1.

The extra low range transforms your Toyota into an unstoppable off road machine.

Vehicles fitted with automatic transmissions, STD or other wise can also take advantage of the extra low, low range as a dramatic improvement in engine braking is realised giving much improved off road performance and increased safety.

Option 4
High Range 1.08:1 = 8% under drive

Low Range

3.05:1 = 55% reduction

HIGH RANGE ratio 1.08:1 or 8 Percent Under drive.

This ratio is ideal for vehicles fitted with 35" or larger tyres requiring an increase in engine revs to regain lost on road performance. 35" tyres will give approximately 20% reduction in engine revs.

If your vehicle is fitted with 35" tyres and a 4-speed gearbox behind an F, B or H series engine the under drive will give you an increase in engine revs of approximately 180 RPM at 100 KPH or 2420 RPM instead of 2240 RPM.

Alternatively, if your vehicle is fitted with 35" tyres and a 5-speed gearbox behind a 2F, B, 2H or 1HZ series engine. The under drive will give you an increase in engine revs of approximately 151 RPM at 100 KPH or 2043 RPM instead of 1892 RPM.

Alternatively, if your vehicle is fitted with 35" tyres and a 5-speed gearbox behind a 3F, or HD series engine. The under drive will give you an increase in engine revs of approximately 157 RPM at 100, KPH or 2129 RPM instead of 1972 RPM.

LOW RANGE ratio 3.05:1 or 55% Reduction

Multiply this 3.05:1 by the 1st gear ratio of 4.843:1 and the differential ratio of 4.11:1 will give you a final drive ratio of 60.7:1 which is a vast improvement on the STD final drive ratio of 36.1:1.

The extra low range transforms your Toyota into an unstoppable off road machine.

Vehicles fitted with automatic transmissions, STD or other wise can also take advantage of the extra low, low range as a dramatic improvement in engine braking is realised giving much improved off road performance and increased safety.
