Nissan Patrol GQ/GU Dual Transfer Case Kit

A dual transfer case enhances the vehicle’s off-road abilities, provides better towing and handling in difficult conditions, and improves versatility by offering high-speed and low-speed driving options. These benefits make it a valuable feature for serious off-roaders, heavy-duty vehicles, and those frequently driving in challenging terrains.

A dual transfer case (often called a two-speed transfer case) is a key component in many four-wheel-drive (4WD) vehicles, particularly those designed for off-roading or heavy-duty applications. It provides several significant benefits, especially when compared to a single-speed transfer case. Here are the primary benefits of a dual transfer case:

Notes

  • Both front and rear drive shafts require modification and a custom gear shifter for the second transfer case.
  • Not suitable for RB28 & RD30 transfer case models.

1. Improved Off-Road Capability

  • Low Range Gear: A dual transfer case typically offers a “low-range” gear, which is ideal for low-speed, high-torque applications like crawling over rocks, steep inclines, deep mud, or sand. This low-range gear provides increased torque, allowing the vehicle to move more slowly and steadily, making it easier to navigate tough terrains without straining the engine or drivetrain.
  • High Range Gear: The high-range gear is used for normal driving on highways or other conditions that don’t require significant torque multiplication, offering better fuel efficiency and higher speeds.

2. Better Control in Challenging Terrain

  • A dual transfer case allows for better control over a vehicle’s speed and power, particularly in tricky off-road situations. This is critical when driving in environments where precise throttle and traction control are required, such as slippery surfaces or uneven ground.
  • The ability to switch between low and high ranges means drivers can adjust their driving strategy to the terrain, reducing the risk of getting stuck or damaging the vehicle.

3. Enhanced Traction and Stability

  • The low-range gearing allows for smoother, more controlled braking and acceleration in rugged conditions, reducing the likelihood of wheel spin and loss of stability.

4. Improved Durability and Longevity

  • A dual transfer case system is often built to withstand the demands of extreme driving conditions, making it more durable in off-road and heavy-duty applications. Providing extra low-range gears helps avoid over-stressing the engine and drivetrain when driving at low speeds or in tough terrain.
  • The ability to shift into high gear for regular driving can help reduce wear and tear on the vehicle’s mechanical components when not off-roading.

5. Greater Control over Speed and Power

  • The additional gear options a dual transfer case system provides allow drivers to adjust the balance between speed and power. When more torque is needed, the low-range setting can provide more power at slower speeds, which is often crucial in off-roading.
